Tribal Salvation Society (TSS), we are deeply committed to improving the health and well-being of marginalized communities in the KBK (Kalahandi, Bolangir, and Koraput) and Kandhamal districts of Odisha. The region faces significant health challenges, including malaria, typhoid, diarrheal diseases, and malnutrition, which have a serious impact on the health of tribal communities, particularly women and children. Through our Community Health Development programs, TSS works to address these issues by providing health education, improving access to healthcare, and promoting preventive measures.
Malaria remains one of the leading health concerns in many tribal areas, where limited access to healthcare and poor sanitation increase the risk of transmission. TSS focuses on malaria prevention by raising awareness about the importance of mosquito nets, proper sanitation, and early diagnosis. We conduct regular health camps in remote areas to screen for malaria, provide free treatment, and distribute insecticide-treated mosquito nets to families. In addition, we engage local communities in the prevention of malaria by educating them on recognizing symptoms and seeking early medical attention.
Typhoid and waterborne diseases are common in areas with limited access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation facilities. To combat these issues, TSS promotes safe drinking water through water purification initiatives and the construction of community wells and hand pumps. We also run health awareness programs to educate communities about safe water storage, proper hygiene practices, and the importance of boiling water before consumption. Regular health check-ups and immunization campaigns are conducted to prevent outbreaks of typhoid and other preventable diseases.
Malnutrition is another major concern in tribal communities, leading to stunted growth in children and increased vulnerability to diseases. TSS runs programs that provide nutritional education to mothers and caregivers, teaching them how to prepare balanced meals using locally available, nutritious foods. We also support maternal health by offering guidance on proper prenatal care and organizing health camps that provide free medical check-ups, iron supplements, and advice on safe childbirth practices.
To ensure long-term health improvements, TSS works towards strengthening local healthcare infrastructure. We collaborate with local health authorities to set up health clinics and improve existing ones, making healthcare more accessible for tribal communities. We also focus on training local health workers to provide basic healthcare services and spread awareness on preventive health measures within their communities.
TSS believes that empowering communities with knowledge is key to improving health outcomes. We organize health education programs that focus on preventive health measures, proper sanitation, and the importance of immunization. These programs are designed to help individuals take control of their health by making informed decisions and adopting healthier lifestyles. Additionally, we provide support to families in need of mental health care, especially those affected by domestic violence or trauma.
TSS’s work in community health development has made a significant impact, but we need continued support to expand our programs and reach more communities in need. Your contribution can help us:
